Osun, A’Ibom NIPR Celebrate Diamond Jubilee with Tree Planting, Street Walk
The Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR) Osun State Chapter and the Akwa Ibom counterpart have planted 60 trees to symbolizes the 60th anniversary of the institute.
The institute also organised street walk to promote environmental sustainability and community health.
The Chairman, Council member, fellows, and other esteemed members of the Osun State Chapter of NIPR, along with the Commissioner for Environment, Honourable Mayowa Adejoorin, the Director of Forestry, and other staff from the Ministries of Environment and Agriculture, participated in a “Walk to Live” from the State Secretariat to Aregbe Junction. This event was organized to emphasize the importance of physical health and community engagement.
The walk culminated in a tree planting ceremony where 60 trees were planted to symbolize the 60th anniversary of NIPR. The tree planting was officially flagged off by Honourable Mayowa Adejoorin.

This tree planting exercise is not just a symbolic act but a significant contribution to our collective goal of preventing erosion, conserving our natural resources, and fostering a healthier environment for all.”

Following this, the Chairman of NIPR Osun State Chapter, along with Council member, fellows, and other chapter members, took part in the planting activities.
The Osun NIPR Chairman, Mr. Ademola Adesoji, appreciated everyone for participating in the walk. He said, “I specially appreciate Honourable Commissioner for Environment, Honourable Mayowa Adejoorin, Directors, and other esteemed personnel here present for honoring our invitation to participate in this exercise.”
“The chosen location for the tree planting was selected to complement the government’s efforts in preventing erosion and preserving the environment. This initiative highlights the NIPR’s commitment to contributing positively to the community and supporting environmental conservation efforts.”
“These 60 seedlings represent 60 years of professional service, controlling narratives, and elevating public relations at national and global levels. It is our belief that these seedlings will be the precursors to what will become a beautiful NIPR Green Garden in the not too distant future,” Mr Ademola Adesoji remarked.
This anniversary celebration not only marks a significant milestone for the NIPR but also reinforces the importance of health, environmental sustainability, and community involvement.
Similarly, in the mood of the celebration o consolidate the advocacy for a greener society, address climate change issues, and promote environmental responsibility, the Akwa Ibom State Chapter of the also embark on fitness walk, aerobics and tree planting.
According to the Chapter Chairman, Elder Manasseh Umoette, the event, tagged “Diamond Walk for Economic Transformation,” and held at the Image House, Uyo, which was simultaneously carried across the 36 states of the federation to also get members of the institute refreshed, renewed and reinvigorated.
While explaining the fundamentals of the event to include promotion of environmental responsibility by all, Elder Umoette added that the event was in line with the directive from the national body for a greener Nigeria, maintaining that “the trees planted are economic trees that will benefit not just the present generation but also future generations.”
He thanked the State Commissioner for Information, Comrade Ini Ememobong; the Transition Committee Chairman of Ikot Ekpene Local Government Council, Sir Cleton Etim, who was represented by his Supervisor for Works and Housing, Hon. Ubong Equot; the Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Comrade Amos Etuk, and all the members of the Institute for their cooperation and support in making the event a success.
The Chapter Chairman further called on all intending members to take advantage of the waiver by the national body and be inducted into the Institute.
Earlier in his speech, the Commissioner for Information, who is also a Council Member of the Institute, appreciated the Elder Manasseh Umoette-led executive for being innovative and pragmatic in their lead.
He expressed his happiness that Akwa Ibom Chapter, the only Chapter in the country that has a permanent secretariat (Image House), has successfully commemorated the 60th anniversary of the Institute with deep commitment and dedication.
In their separate goodwill messages, Comrade Etuk, the Transition Committee Chairman of Ikot Ekpene, and the Zonal Director of the Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCDMB), Dr Uduak Obot, thanked Elder Umoette and his team for staying true to the tenets of the Institution.
The tree planting were symbolically done by Comrade Ini Ememobong, Comrade Amos Etuk, Dr Uduak Obot, Sir Cleton Etim, Mrs. Elsie Udofia, Sir Obiota Ekanem, Fellow Okon Imerh, Dr Evans Eshiet, and Dr Unwana Charles.
The event was also witnessed by the Supervisors for Women Affairs, and Legislatives Affairs and Special Duties, Mrs. Mercy Friday, and Hon. Uwem Ekpenyon.
