The Nigerian Institute of Public Relations, NIPR, has awarded a full academic scholarship to the “Best Fellow of the Maiden PRNigeria Young Communication Fellowship, ” in Abuja Centre.
The scholarship award was announced by the President and Chairman, NIPR Governing Council, Dr. Ike Neliaku, at an event to draw the curtain on the fellowship program.
The one month-long capacity building training for university and polytechnic graduates began on September 2, 2024 and ended on Friday at the Abuja Corporate Office of PRNigeria, the sister flagship publication of Economic Confidential, all published by the Image Merchant Promotions Limited (IMPR).
The fellowship, which shall also be taking place at PRNigeria Centres in Ilorin and Kano in October and December this year, was organized to broaden the participants’ scope in all aspects of journalism, public relations and social media/artificial intelligence.
Fatima Abedoh, 24, who emerged as the best cohort of the inaugural PRNigeria Fellowship in Abuja Centre, is an Information and Media Studies graduate of Bayero University, Kano (BUK).
A jury chaired by Mr. Francis Enoboro mni, a retired spokesperson of the Nigeria Correctional Service, NCoS, picked the BUK graduate as “The Best” after assessing the oral presentations of the entire 10 fellows on various aspects of PR, during the closing ceremony.
However, Miss Ibrahim Ramot Ikeoluwa received the “Most Discipline Fellow” award.
Dr. Neliaku, who was the special guest of honour at the event congratulated the cohorts for successfully completing the fellowship training, announcing that Fatima will get an all-expense paid scholarship to the NIPR Finishing School which has began operation in Nasarawa State.
“With the scholarship, Fatima will be participating in a one-month summer training on PR and other aspects of communication. On behalf of my management team at the NIPR, I wish to also announce that the best PRNigeria fellows in the next five years will receive this scholarship, too,” he said.
While giving the cohorts essential tips on how to succeed in their professional careers, Neliaku stressed the importance of having good reputation for personal, organizational and national growth.
According to him, reputation is now a core asset which nations and organizations now pay attention to globally.
His words, “Reputation is now an important part of our life. So you need to start cultivating it because it grows over time. It is a core asset in any organization you work and a determinant of how people reckon with you as a person, an establishment or a country.
You must also note that reputation without hard work does not yield results, hence hard work and commitment are its drivers. Meanwhile, we must acknowledge Alhaji Yushau Shuaib’s contributions to the country, particularly in crisis management and communication, where he has generously devoted his resources, time, and goodwill.
“His mentorship of younger generations is equally impressive and deserves recognition. Having consistently demonstrated this commitment and having escalated it into a Fellowship is worthy of commendation”.
On his part, Alhaji Yushau Shuaib, the Chief Executive Officer of IMPR and Editor-in-chief of PRNigeria,
congratulated the fellows, wishing them well in their future endeavours.
Highlight of the event was the presentation of certificates to the graduating cohorts by Dr. Neliaku assisted by Alh. Shuaib.
