605 Inducted into NIPR as Institute Marks Diamond Jubilee
The Nigerian Institute of Public Relations, NIPR, has inducted its 605 new Associate Members.
At the induction ceremony held in Abuja on Thursday was the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Alh. Idris Mohammed Malagi; the Director General of Voice of Nigeria, VON, Mallam Jibrin Baba Ndace; and the President/Chairman of the NIPR Governing Council, Dr. Ike Neliaku.
Other eminent dignitaries who attended the colourful event include the President, Nigerian Union of Journalists, NUJ, Dr. Chris Isiguzo; former Director, Defence Information, DDI, Gen. Chris Olukolade; and the Director General of the News Agency of Nigeria, NAN, Ali Mohammed Ali, to mention a few.
The event is part of the Diamond Anniversary celebration of the NIPR, which will climax on June 27, 2024, with an International Colloquium at the Transcorp Hilton Hotel, in Abuja.
In his address, Alh. Mohammed Malagi, who was represented by Mal. Ndace, congratulated the new NIPR members, urging them to become PR professionals who understand the power of communication.
According to him, the new inductees should be aware that they are now playing the dual role of representing their individual organisations and the country, hence they should eschew demarketing Nigeria via negative communications.
“Don’t become the drivers of negative communications about our dear country. Instead I am urging you to believe in Nigeria, and contribute to its development,” the Information Minister said.
In his speech, Dr. Neliaku, reiterated the NIPR’s commitment to ridding the PR profession of quacks, announcing that the second phase of the special induction ceremony will hold on Thursday, July 11, 2024, for those mistakenly left out of today’s occasion.
