IWD: Invest in Women, Children, Lagos NIPR Tells Policymakers
As we commemorate the 2024 International Women’s Day, the Lagos Chapter of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR), through the Chairman of the Chapter, Mrs. Comfort Obot Nwankwo, calls upon policymakers to heed the message of this year’s theme “Invest in Women: Accelerate Progress.”
The Lagos Chapter extends heartfelt congratulations to women across Lagos for their unwavering resilience, remarkable achievements, and invaluable contributions to society. She emphasised the critical role women play in propelling social, economic, and political development. Despite the economic challenges, there is a tendency among policymakers to overlook vulnerable groups, particularly women and children. However, Lagos NIPR asserts that investing in these groups will undoubtedly accelerate the economic recovery of Nigeria.
Amidst prevalent economic challenges, we call upon women everywhere to persevere, recognising that their endeavours are pivotal in surmounting obstacles and fostering a more just and equitable world. The economic hardships faced by Nigerians have highlighted the resilience and resourcefulness of women, who often navigate unprecedented difficulties while balancing work, family, and community responsibilities with unwavering determination.
We take immense pride in acknowledging the outstanding achievements of women in Lagos, often referred to as the “city of excellence.” Particularly within our NIPR community, we commend the trailblazing efforts of Lagos NIPR women who have shattered barriers and assumed leadership positions on corporate boards. Their exemplary leadership serves as a beacon of inspiration for women aspiring to excel in the field of public relations and beyond.
As we celebrate the progress made by women, we underscore the urgent need for heightened investment in women and children, especially during these challenging times. Empowering women economically, socially, and politically is not only a moral imperative but also a strategic necessity for fostering sustainable development and inclusive growth.
The theme “Invest in Women: Accelerate Progress” resonates profoundly with the PR profession, which thrives on effective communication, collaboration, and inclusivity. As communicators, we recognise the power of amplifying women’s voices, advocating for their causes, and cultivating an environment where their talents and contributions are duly acknowledged and valued.
On this International Women’s Day, let us reaffirm our unwavering commitment to advancing gender equality, championing diversity and inclusion, and paving the way for women to realise their full potential. Together, let us harness the collective power of women to expedite progress and forge a brighter, more prosperous future for all.
