Nigeria Needs Purposeful Leadership, Expert Says
A renowned public analyst and religious leader, Most Rev. Felix Ajakaye, has called for purposeful leadership in Nigeria to better the country.
While speaking at a recent public lecture in honor of Obi Nnaemeka Achebe, tagged: “Traditional Institutions, Public Relations and Governance in Contemporary Nigeria,” organized by the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR) Anambra State chapter.
Ajakaye noted that Nigerians are yearning for leadership that is honest, courageous, and forthright.
He said traditional institutions, which include marriage, family, education, religion, and kingship, are expected to be used to achieve this.
The President and Chairman of the NIPR Governing Council, Dr. Ike Neliaku, commended the Anambra State chapter for hosting the event and appealed to make it a systematic procedure that can be transformed into a national event.
He also commended the Vice-Chancellor of Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University, Prof. Greg Nwakoby, for his collaborative effort in hosting the event.
He added that the Lecture Series for Igwe Achebe has become one of the few lecture series instituted to celebrate a living person, as against most lectures that celebrate achievers posthumously.
Earlier, the Chairman of the occasion, Mr. Bobo Brown, who is also a former President of NIPR, commended Achebe for his leadership and courage in bringing back the culture of translating ideas into action in the spirit of the NIPR of yesteryears.
In his remark, the Vice-Chancellor of Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University, Prof. Greg Nwakoby, applauded the NIPR for their activities in promoting corporate coexistence, nation building, and rebranding of the nation’s image.
He said the university has always insisted that only certified members of NIPR head the institution’s Public Relations Unit to ensure excellence and professionalism.
On her part, the Anambra State Chapter Chairman of NIPR, Prof. Angela Nwammuo, said the event was birthed eleven months ago to contribute to public relations practice in the country and to honor Obi Achebe for his contributions to the promotion and practice of public relations in Nigeria and the world at large.
