NIPR Commends Gov Makinde for Appointing PR Professional as New BCOS GM
The Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR) has commended the Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, for appointing a seasoned public relations professional, Adelakun James Adegoke, as the new General Manager of the Broadcasting Corporation of Oyo State (BCOS).
NIPR President, Ike Neliaku, in a statement on Thursday, described the appointment as “professional” and in line with best practices.
“Leadership is about the ability to identify individuals with sound professional standing and strategically engage them in their areas of specialties and competence for optimal value,” Neliaku said.
According to him, “Unfortunately, the case in Africa, including Nigeria, is that of leaders preferring quacks to professionals and choosing mediocrity over meritocracy.
“The Institute receives this appointment with excitement because Mr. Adelakun is a member of the PR profession that we can attest to his professional competence to deliver on his mandate”, he said.
Neliaku assured Governor Makinde of NIPR’s institutional support to Adegoke and the Oyo State government.
He also called on other state governments to emulate Makinde’s example by appointing qualified professionals to key positions.
