Nigeria Institute of Public Relations (NIPR) has scored Akwa Ibom State high on hospitality and rich cultural heritage.
The President and Chairman-in-Council of NIPR, Mallam Mukhtar Zubairu Sirajo, announced the recognition during the closing ceremony of a three-day 2022 Directors’ Conference held in Akwa Ibom State at the weekend at Ibom Icon Hotel and Golf Resort, with the theme: “Driving Sustainable Digital Innovation: Future Proofing of Corporate Communications.”
Sirajo said Akwa Ibom had been known for its friendly disposition towards visitors and friends of the state, including corporate bodies, like the NIPR.
While extending the appreciation of NIPR to the state Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Ini Ememobong, the President commended the cordial relationship existing between the body and the Ministry of Information and Strategy in the state and the friendly atmosphere enjoyed during the tenure of the commissioner by the institute.
In their separate remarks, a fellow of the Institute, Mr. Sam Uko and one of the resource persons at the conference, Prof. Peter Esu, Dean, Faculty of Communications and Media Studies, University of Uyo, thanked the NIPR for the sentiments expressed about the state and the Commissioner for Information and Strategy.
Chairman, Education Advisory Board, NIPR, Prof. Emmanuel Dandaura, said the Directors’ Conference is an avenue for a continuous professional development for PR Directors in the public and private sector, hence the carefully selection of theme and resource persons to refresh and update the professional knowledge and skills of participants for optimisation of their performance.
Chairman, Directors’ Conference Planning Committee, Nkechi Ali-Balogun said since most Directors spend much time sitting within their organisations, the Directors’ Conference was designed as a “edutainment” programme across states of Nigeria to provide an opportunity for PR Directors to be trained on current trends in corporate communications and also seize the avenue to be refreshed through some forms of physical exercises and visiting interesting sites around the locations of the conference.
Papers were presented at the three-days conference. Akwa Ibom State participants at the conference included the PRO, College of Education, Afaha Nsit, Mrs Glory Umoh, a reporter of The Pioneer Newspaper, Mr. Akan Esiwang and the Director of Public Relations, Ministry of Information and Strategy, Mrs. Grace Akpan.
