NIPR Inaugurates 52-Man Committee for Security, National Integration Summit
The President, Nigerian Institute Of Public Relations, NIPR, Malam Mukhtar Zubairu Sirajo, has inaugurated a 52-man ‘Planning Committee’ for a ‘Citizens Summit on National Integration, Peace and Security.”
The ceremony was held at Nicon Luxury Hotel, Area 11, Garki, in Abuja.
The National Integration, Peace and Security Summit, according to Mr. Sirajo, will be a platform to harvest ideas. It will begin in September 2021, across the 36 states of the Federation, then to zonal levels and culminating into a citizens National Summit later in the year.
Sirajo, at the inauguration ceremony, explained that ideas generated from the Summit will be transformed into a blueprint and policy recommendations for governments at all levels.
He noted that the absence of peace and security in any society impedes harmonious relationship and makes stunted economic development inevitable.
Beyond kinetic war, he said NIPR is of the strong conviction that the search for peace in Nigeria could be won at another front.
He said: “While in no way attempting to erode the import of the efforts of our armed forces and security agencies, we believe that in order to complement those efforts there is now the compelling need to seek citizen derived solutions and actions based on people-to-people approach to regalvanise and re-energize our nationhood. This we be believe, can be achieved by reengaging in the conversation to restore confidence.”
The 52-man Planning Committee has Dr. Ike Neliaku as Chairman; and Comrade Mohammed Haruna Ibrahim, Vice Chairman.
Other members of the Committee include Otunba Segun Runsewe, Dr. Garba Abari, Brig. Gen. SK Usman, Dr. Mike Omeri, Dr. Sule Yau Sule, CP Emmanuel Ojukwu (rtd.); Mr. Yushau Shaibu, Mr. Segun Mcmedal, Alhaji Mohammed Kudu Abubakar, among several eminent PR gurus and practitioners.
