Media Wants more campaigns against Harmful Traditional practices
The General Manager of the Rivers State Newspaper Corporation (RSNC), Chief Ernest Chinwo, has called for more campaigns against some harmful traditional birth practices in the society.
The General Manager who said this during an advocacy visit to his office by the Rivers State Media for family Planning said such practices such as; female circumcision and widowhood practices should be discouraged.
He also stressed the need for parents to have the number of children only, they can cater for as most antisocial behaviour in the society have been associated with conge families.
Chinwo said the organisation has a Herculean task of sensitising the public on the importance of family planning as well as the negative impact of unplanned families.
The general manager also told the group to take the campaign to all the nooks and crannies of the state especially to the rural areas, where there is a high level of ignorance on family planning.
He also ensured of the supports of the corporation to the group.
Earlier, state chairperson of the Rivers media for Family Planning, Mrs Jenewari Utomi, said the visit was to intimate the management of the activities of the group with a view to soliciting for their support.
She said the group’s areas of focus include campaign against teenage pregnancy, unsafe abortion and maternal mortality.
Also speaking, secretary of the group, Mrs Tonye Nria-Dappa, said the activities of the group are already in eight local government areas of the state.
She said a round table on sustainability of family planning is being planned for the 26th of this month.
