- After appointing Ex Gov Yari as Patron, Matawalle ban TV station for covering gotv activities
Governor Bello Matawalle of Zamfara State has on Sunday 16th May, 2021 issued a letter of restriction for covering his activities to Hijrah TV for honouring Abdul-Aziz Yari Abubakar, the immediate past governor of Zamfara State.
In statement obtained by our correspondent on Monday , signed by Muhammad Bashir, the Managing Director of Hijrah TV in Nigeria.
It will be recalled that Hijrah TV has on Wednesday 12th May, 2021 appointed Dr Abdul-Aziz Yari Abubakar as its Chief Grand Patron.
Hijrah TV’s reporters in the Zamfara; Nafi’u and Ibrahim Abdul-Malik stated that Matawalle’s administration was not happy that Hijrah TV has honoured the ex-governor, hence banning the station from covering all activities of the government.
“However, I have called Zamfara State’s information Commissioner, Ibrahim Dosara to confirm the development but he didn’t pick the call.” Bashir says.
The Managing Director of Hijrah TV urged Matawalle’s administration to reconsider its decision to restrict a media outlet from conducting its duties in Zamfara, and “understand which seed grow and which grow not.” He added.
Bashir, who says Hijrah TV has not presented a letter of appointment to Abdul-Aziz Yari for political gains, argued that Governor Matawalle should not ban an international television station from covering activities in Zamfara state simply because it honoured a member of the opposition party.
