NUJ urges Buhari to revamp Security apparatus, Economic Woes
The National Executive Council (NEC) of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) has charged the federal government to as a matter of urgency re jig the security apparatus to enable it effectively tackle challenges of insecurity in Nigeria.
NEC specifically mentioned the insurgency in North- east, banditry, kidnappings, cattle rustling and other forms of criminality.
This was contained in a 13 point communiqué issued at the end of the NEC meeting of NUJ held in Asaba, Delta state, weekend.
Presenting the communiqué, the NUJ president, Chief Chris Isiguzo, said criminality has assumed a dangerous dimension thereby making free movement of people, goods and services from one part of the country to another a difficult challenge.
NEC also called on the federal government to accede to the clamour of State Police to bolster the security system.
The NUJ president said: “NEC tasks the federal government to tackle the problems of electricity supply with all seriousness it can muster.
“It also urged government to enforce the directive on metering as Nigerians have been subjected to more punishment for being made to pay for energy not consumed.
“The union regrets the unprovoked killing of Nigerian soldiers while on assignment to help restore peace in some warring communities in Benue state and called for proper investigation to fish out the culprits.
“Federal roads in the country have completely broken down and are now death traps.”
