Objectives of the project

Mobilize and sustain effective family planning advocacy to increase resources, decrease policy barriers, and increase the importance of family planning among policymakers.
Amplify voices from the global south to help global advocacy organizations make increased access to family planning a priority among national governments and international agencies.
Diffuse advocacy best practices to guide strategy development and implementation through the AFP Advocacy Portfolio—our advocacy resource toolkit.
Media and Communications Officer

LOCATION: Nigeria

Summary:

The media and communications officer will lead media engagement strategies to complement other family planning advocacy efforts. He/She will deploy strategies that will generate and sustain dialogue on family planning with a view to enhance prioritization and influence state and national discourse and actions, and in turn help shape regional and global family planning conversations and interventions.

Key Job Outcomes:

Project Specific

Identifying opportunities to use the media in advancing family planning advocacy efforts.
Lead media focused advocacy efforts, including development and implementation of a media advocacy work plan
Document advocacy interventions, stories or breaking news by Pathfinder/AFP and both state and non-state actor collectively working with AFP to advance FP2020 goal
Liaise with family planning actors at the national and state levels including FP 2020 focal points to amplify voice and diffuse advocacy experience and bet practices toward achievement of FP2020 goal
Strengthen capacity of family planning advocates in the use of media and documentation of advocacy stories and news
Liaise with partners and project staff/team members to develop a variety of web and print products and presentation materials, such a fact sheets, briefs, web stories, and case studies
Organize, track and disseminate Pathfinder/ AFP’s printed and electronic publications to various stakeholders (and in different formats) at local, national and global level.
Develop ideas for blogs, infographics, and other dissemination methods
In collaboration with project team members and the global communications team, will be responsible for content development and management of pathfinder/AFP’s internal and external websites, media and social media sites (Facebook, Instagram and Twitter).
Support technical assistance on information collection for documentation, packaging and branding for visibility
Contribute to the creation and dissemination of knowledge products (technical publications, document reviews and collaboration with communities of practice)
Adhere to institutional, donor, and partner branding requirements
Brand Awareness and Loyalty: Serves as overall brand manager. Represents Pathfinder Nigeria at professional communications meetings, international conferences and donor events.
Research: Supports relevant market research; uses market research and revenue and marketing metrics for communications planning. Tracks and investigates new communications opportunities and applications.
Budget Management: Manages the development or production budget for marketing and communications collateral. Contributes to the development of project proposals and budgets to ensure resources for strategic positioning and visibility efforts.
External Relations Liaison: Serves as Pathfinder Nigeria ’s point of contact for external communications who forwards communication requests to appropriate departments. Builds and strengthens collaborative relationships with internal business units and teams.

Brand Strategy Development and Implementation: Advanced skills to create, execute and sustain effective enterprise-wide brand strategies, guidelines and standards.

Design and Print Production: Advanced knowledge of design process and print production.
Communications Tools: Advanced knowledge of online and new media communications tools.
Leadership and Management: Proven ability to lead, supervise and coach members of staff in different locations.

Job-Specific Software Applications: Advanced knowledge of software applications for web based solutions, social media platforms, and apps.
Project Management Planning and Management: Proven ability to plan and manage cross-functional initiatives.
Reporting: Proven ability to read and interpret data for reporting. Proven ability to generate and present standard reports.
Minimally Required Organizational Competencies:

Software Applications: Advanced knowledge of MS Excel, PowerPoint, Word and Outlook.
Communication and Influencing Skills: Proven ability to influence others through diplomacy and proven oral and written communication skills.
Passion for Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights: Commitment to family planning, reproductive health services, gender, maternal, child health services, and eradication of harmful traditional practices.
Self-Management and Teamwork: Ability to work independently or as a member of the team, ability to be detailed-oriented, and ability to manage stress effectively in a fast-pace environment.
Matrix Management: Ability to thrive in a matrix organization.
Confidentiality: Ability to maintain confidentiality on work related matters
Communication: Advanced oral and written communication skills using different forms of media. Ability to translate complex concepts to individuals at all levels.
