The Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR), has adjourned its Induction ceremony as well as Annual General Meeting (AGM)/Conference which was slated for Bauchi in April as a measure to contain the spread of Coronavirus pandemic.

This was contained in a statement signed by the institute’s National President, Mal. Mukhtar Sirajo, noting that all crowd pulling activities of the institute has been suspended inline with the federal government’s directive of containing the deadly plague.

Mukhtar added that, the institute is bearing in mind the need to be proactive and refrain from taking steps that would not only put the welfare of its members in jeopardy, but also portray the institute in bad light.

“The health challenge that the entire world has been forced to grapple with, is by the day becoming a reality beyond denial. The virus has spread around the world and the number of those infected in Nigeria seems to be steadily rising”

“The reality on ground as well as the measures taken by various governments across the globe and at home here, is the major reason why we are suspending our crowd pulling activities to arrest the spread of this deadly disease as well as to safeguard the wellbeing of our well-meaning colleagues” he emphasized.

While urging various governments to use new strategy for providing periodic updates on response actions for handling the pandemic, he advised state chapters to also suspend similar activities at their level including monthly general meeting.

“Both state and federal government have been proactive in containing the pandemic, but we are however hopeful that strategic communication and information management should be improved. And as we remain hopeful in the containment of the scourge, will continue to monitor developments with a view of fixing new dates for our programs as soon as the situation permits” Mukhtar assured.
