Tech Phobia: Expert Allays Fears About AI Impact in PR
The Convener of the annual NECCIPR Roundtable, Nkechi Alli-Balogun, charged professional women to tackle “tech phobia” among women and professionals
Alli-Balogun spoke with Nigeria Tribune about the NECCIPR Roundtable, recently in an interview.
Ali-Balogun who also former Chairman of the Lagos Chapter of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR) noted that the importance of showcasing women who have successfully broken into the tech sector to inspire others.
“We want to showcase them so that we can encourage more women to go into STEM,” she said.
The event, themed “Women in Technology: Breaking Barriers,” aimed to address the significant barriers women face in entering, progressing, and leading in the tech industry.
Alli-Balogun highlighted the need for a paradigm shift that recognizes and mobilizes women as a pivotal resource for African technology.
The NECCIPR Roundtable has been at the forefront of bringing critical issues to the minds of decision-makers for 23 years. This year’s edition featured discussions on technology, AI, and their intersection with the feminine gender.
Alli-Balogun said as Nigeria launches initiatives to empower citizens with skills in artificial intelligence, blockchain, and other technologies.
“Therefore the event is meant to foster a paradigm shift that recognizes and mobilises women as a pivotal resource for the growth of African technology, showcase strategy to raise awareness and implement initiatives that drive this change, spotlight trailblasing women in digital technology sector, their potential as a vast reservoir of intellectual and energy, highlight women in tech as critical resource for advancing the African continent to the world, empowering women in the tech ecosystem, and many others.
“By promoting women in tech and addressing tech phobia, Nigeria can unlock its full potential and become a leader in the digital space.”
