DHQ, NIPR Strengthen Ties to Enhance Civil Military Relations
In a significant move to enhance collaboration between Nigeria’s military and the civilian sector, the Defence Headquarters (DHQ) and the National Institute of Public Relations (NIPR) have strengthened ties towards enhancing civil military relations.
The colloboration was unveiled when the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) General Christopher Gwabin Musa welcomed the executive members of the NIPR at the Defence Headquarters in Abuja.
Led by NIPR President Dr. Ike Neliaku, the delegation’s visit aimed at reinforcing the mutual and beneficial relationship between the Armed Forces of Nigeria (AFN) and the institute.
During the meeting, General Musa expressed his gratitude for NIPR’s ongoing support in elucidating the military’s vital role in safeguarding the nation. He noted that such efforts are crucial as they enlighten the public about the military’s significance in national security.
“The military will continue to foster partnerships with NIPR and other relevant bodies, ensuring that we align our efforts with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s commitment to restoring peace and safety for all citizens,” General Musa stated, emphasizing the AFN’s unwavering dedication to its responsibilities.
Dr. Ike Neliaku, in his address, praised General Musa for his professional leadership and the AFN’s commitment to ongoing training and development for military personnel. He acknowledged the efforts of the CDS in enhancing the operational effectiveness of the military, which he described as vital for national stability.
Neliaku assured the CDS that NIPR would intensify its efforts to educate the public about the military’s mission, fostering greater understanding and support within the civilian population. He also pledged to initiate training programs for military personnel in public relations practices, which he believes will enhance communication strategies within the Armed Forces.
Moreover, Neliaku congratulated General Musa on the recent exoneration of the military by a Special Investigative Panel regarding alleged infractions involving the ICRC and Reuters. He commended the AFN for its decision to host the upcoming Africa Military Games in 2024, reflecting Nigeria’s commitment to leadership in continental defense.
In a poignant moment, Dr. Neliaku extended his heartfelt condolences to the AFN following the passing of Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja. He hailed Lagbaja as a true patriot and hero, whose dedication to his country will be forever remembered.
A statement by the Defence Spokesperson, Brigadier General Tukur Gusau, said the meeting marks a pivotal step towards fortifying the strategic alliance between the Nigerian military and public relations professionals, ensuring that the narrative around national security and military efforts is accurately portrayed and well understood by citizens.
