Former IPRA President, Dr. Anand is dead

International Public Relations Association

Dear IPRA Members,

I was informed by Mrs Akerkar of the passing away of her husband, former IPRA president and Member Emeritus, Anand Akerkar. Dr Anand Akerkar served IPRA for many years and became the Association’s 25th President 30 years ago, in 1989, succeeding Dr Alain Modoux.
He was the first Indian President and played an important role in the international development of the PR profession world wide. For many, including myself, Anand was an example in many ways. Extremely articulate, he had a passion for world history, literature and he had a deep sense of humanity. He served for many years as a communication counsel and consultant for many large Indian and International Corporations. His wisdom, communication skills, unsurpassed sense of humor, and his sense of friendship made him become a friend of two or more generations of PR professionals.
We have a lost a friend, a great professional, and a person with unparalleled communication talent. He will be remembered with respect and gratitude. I have presented our condolences to his beloved wife Jinx on behalf of IPRA and promised to pass on the message to IPRA’s membership
With best regards,
Charles van der Straten Waillet
Past President
Member Emeritus
